Real-life writing

Those of you who read “If You Knew the True Story” in the “Writing from the Cabin” blog https://lynnecurryauthor.com/2023/08/22/if-you-knew-the-true-story/ know my fiancé died in a plane crash three days before our wedding. That tragedy triggered my writing Her Next Hero.

Although Jess Cassidy, the main character who comes to life in HNH is fictitious, I borrowed liberally from my HR work—when I battled with a Darth Vader supervisor on behalf of an employee struggling with stage 3 cancer; the time I confronted a knife-wielding abuser trying to drag an employee out of the workplace; when I took out a highly placed workplace bully that made life toxic for everyone—to give Jess professional challenges readers could relate to that balanced her messy personal life.

Lies puts Jess in a challenge that almost does her in. She flies to Deadhorse to unravel a mystery that led a young Inupiat employee to flee the Northern Employee Solutions man camp.

Now that I’ve almost finished Lies, all 90K words of it, and am starting Luna’s Escape, I’m taking on my hardest writing challenge. You may have read something like what Jess read on the front of the shuttered flight school door when she arrived for her lesson.

A search is underway for an overdue single-engine plane missing since Monday, after the pilot left Anchorage Monday enroute to Valdez.

The Alaska State Troopers received the report of an overdue aircraft with one person on board and notified the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center just after 8:20 p.m. The red and white Aeronca Champion left Anchorage around four, and never arrived.

Ground searchers and aircraft scanned the route between Anchorage and Valdez on Wednesday without finding any sign of the missing plane.

Interested? Me too, I can’t wait to write this novel that includes a woman parachuting into icy waters of Seldovia Bay.
